What Huawei Mate XT 2 2026 is: inward trifold and privacy OLED
Huawei’s third trifold now folds inward and sells a paid privacy OLED on 1TB. Here is the hinge, the chip, China price, and the missing global date.
On 7 September 2026 Huawei unveiled its third trifold, the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design, at the HarmonyOS 7 launch: both wings now fold inward, the Kirin 9050 Pro debuts, and China pricing starts at RMB 19,999.
The searchable name is Huawei Mate XT 2. The Verge, Nikkei Asia, and Huawei’s China product page the same day confirm the shift from an accordion fold that left flexible glass exposed to a dual-inward close.
What the launch said
The inner OLED is about 10.2 inches at 2232×3184. Huawei calls the new hinge a dual-inward “wings” fold: both side panels tuck in so the crease sits inside the closed book. Earlier Mate XT / XTs used a Z-style accordion that left part of the flexible panel on the outside.
How to read the trifold
-
1
Treat it as a hinge generation, not another millimetre on a spec sheet
The Verge frames the inward fold as a follow of Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold: close the book to protect the flexible glass. Samsung’s own TriFold left sale soon after last year’s launch; a sequel is still rumour. This is Huawei’s third trifold, not a first attempt.

2
Read the chip and the supply chain as one story
Nikkei Asia’s headline is a “US-free” core chipset. The silicon is Kirin 9050 Pro on HarmonyOS 7. Single-core, multi-core, and whole-device percentages versus the last Mate XT are Huawei lab claims, not a public benchmark table.

Keep the China on-sale clock apart from a global SKU
ITBear and iGeekPhone put China retail at 12 September, 10:08. The Next Web wrote 10 September; this piece follows the Chinese briefings. No international date is published.
IP58 / IP59 is new on this trifold line
Huawei’s China page lists lab IP58 and IP59, with the usual note that it is not a dive phone and ratings fade with wear. ITBear calls this the first Huawei trifold to carry that pair of marks.
A separate cover OLED is not a tablet in your pocket
iGeekPhone describes a rigid dual-layer outer OLED for calls and QR pay without opening the book. The 10.2-inch surface appears only unfolded. HarmonyOS 7 ships without an Android compatibility layer, Huawei says — apps need a Harmony build.
The calendar sits two days before a rumoured Apple foldable
Several outlets expect Apple’s 9 September event to show a first foldable iPhone. That is still expectation, not a shipped spec sheet. Mate XT 2’s China price and sale clock are published numbers.

The Verge, 7 September 2026: the Mate XT 2 takes Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold inward fold and is the first foldable to add a privacy OLED in the style of the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Limits
- A China yuan price is not a world price
- RMB 19,999 is the Huawei China site and briefing floor. Gulf coverage already says local pricing is unpublished.
- Vendor percentages are not a benchmark site
- Comparisons cite a HarmonyOS 5.1 Mate XTs in Huawei footnotes. Third-party tables are not out yet.
- Privacy glass is an optical extra
- Side dimming comes from narrower-angle pixels, not OS encryption. The non-privacy 1TB SKU does not include that panel.
Questions worth checking
What is the real hinge change versus Mate XT?
The older accordion left flexible glass outside when closed. XT 2 folds both wings inward so the crease sits inside. The Verge reads that as a move toward Samsung’s TriFold.
Does every storage tier get the privacy OLED?
No. Press price lists and The Verge tie it to 16GB + 1TB plus about RMB 1,000. The 256GB and 512GB briefing rows do not include that option.
Can you buy it outside China today?
As of 8 September 2026 Huawei has not posted an international on-sale date. The checkable clock is China at 10:08 on 12 September, from RMB 19,999.
